April 2018 Minutes, Feb 14, 2019
The St. Lucie Soil and Water Conservation District regular board meeting was called to order at 1:30p.m., at the St. Lucie County Agricultural Complex. Those in attendance were
Philip C. “Flip” Gates Jr. – Chair
Mike Adams – Vice Chairman
Linda Minton – Supervisor
Jennifer Abbey – District Conservationist, USDA NRCS
Bess McKinney – District Administrator; St. Lucie SWCD
Leona Yates – Ag MIL Team Leader; Treasure Coast RC&D
Mr. Gates called the meeting to order at 1:30p.m. Mr. Adams motioned to approve the February minutes. Mrs. Minton seconded, motion passed.
Mr. Gates explained to other board members, that Mrs. McKinney’s computer had crashed. Mr. Gates told everyone, she would send out the updated treasurers report when her computer was fixed.
Mrs. Abbey went over the USDA NRCS report with the board. She told the board there are currently 15 active EQIP contracts. There are 7 active contracts for CSP. Mrs. Abbey told the board that she is currently assisting USDA Farm Service Agency with ECP, making field visits. She told the board that they are currently accepting applications for ACEP-WRE.
Mrs. McKinney told the board that the 2018 State Envirothon is scheduled for April 28, 2018 at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. Mrs. McKinney reminded the board that Mrs. Abbey is the Vice President of the State Envirothon board. Mrs. McKinney told the board that she, and Mrs. Yates will be attending the State Envirothon to help. Mrs. McKinney told the board that they all will be staying over night in Gainesville Friday April 27, 2018 to help set-up and then attend the Envirothon on Saturday April 28, 2018.
Mr. Gates discussed the 2018 Outstanding Conservationist of the Year. After discussing, Mr. Gates nominated Mr. Lionel Lowery for the 2018 Outstanding Conservationist of the year. Mr. Adams seconded, motion passed.
There being no further business to bring before this board, the meeting was adjourned at 2:00pm. The next regular board meeting will be held May 8, 2018 at 1:30pm at the St. Lucie County Agricultural Complex located at 8400 Picos Road, Ft. Pierce Fl.
